Royal Television Society East launches first ever winter season of exclusive television events in Cambridge




The Royal Television Society East (RTS East) has announced the launch of its first ever winter season - a new programme of events going behind the scenes of the very best of British television.

Running throughout October and November 2025, the RTS East winter season will feature an impressive line-up of discussions, panels, and Q&A sessions, spotlighting some of Britain’s best loved TV shows - from long-running dramas such as Grantchester to BAFTA-winning factual formats including The Jury: Murder Trial.

Events will take place across historic venues in Cambridge, offering audiences the opportunity to hear directly from some of the industry’s most respected creatives, and celebrate the East of England’s ongoing contribution to the world of television.

Dinah Lord, chair of RTS East, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to introduce our very first winter season of events here in Cambridge.

“This exciting new programme showcases the extraordinary creative talent of the East of England and those with a long-standing relationship with our region’s vibrant television community.

“From powerful factual storytelling to much-loved dramas filmed right here in the East, these events embody the spirit of collaboration and creativity that defines our industry.”

The Jury: Murder Trial – Can We Trust Our Justice System? takes place tomorrow (Thursday, 30 October) at 6.30pm at the University Arms Hotel in Cambridge.

The creators of Channel 4’s BAFTA-winning series The Jury: Murder Trial discuss this groundbreaking television experiment which re-stages a real-life murder trial before two juries of ordinary people.

Executive producers Ed Kellie and Alf Lawrie will be joined by renowned barrister Michael Mansfield KC, in conversation with Channel 4 News presenter Jackie Long.

The panel will explore the challenges of making of this landmark series, and discuss the ethical and social implications of this television experiment. Are our juries safe?

The evening includes a Q&A and drinks reception.

Patrick Holland in Conversation with Dorothy Byrne takes place next Tuesday (4 November) at 6.30pm at the Old Divinity School, St John’s Street, Cambridge.

Two of Britain’s most influential television figures - Patrick Holland, executive chairman, Banijay UK, and former director of BBC Factual programmes, and Dorothy Byrne, former head of Channel 4 news and current affairs and outgoing president at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge - come together to discuss the challenges facing the future of the TV industry, the rapidly evolving media landscape and recent industry controversies, like the scandal surrounding Banijay talent Gregg Wallace.

The event will be followed by a Q&A and drinks reception, with a complimentary glass of wine.

Grantchester: Behind the Scenes with the Cast and Crew takes place on Wednesday, 19 November, at 6.30pm in Magdalene College at the Cripps Court Auditorium.

Tickets are free (for RTS members and students/unwaged) and £10 for non-members. Book at rts.org.uk/events/grantchester-behind-scenes-cast-and-crew.

Go behind the scenes of one of Britain’s most beloved dramas, Grantchester, with members of the cast and creative team, including Robson Green, Al Weaver, Daisy Coulam, and Emma Kingsman-Lloyd.

As the series prepares to air its eleventh and final series, the panel will share exclusive insights into how Grantchester has evolved and remained a fan favourite for over a decade.

The event includes an audience Q&A and a complimentary drinks reception.
