Stapleford Granary village day offers food, live music, a junior bake off competition and more
Stapleford Granary is holding a free village day event from 11am to 4pm this Sunday (July 17).
Stalls will include pottery, printing, floristry, photography, candles and painting, while there will be hands-on activities including crafts for children, basket weaving and stained glass making. The junior bake off competition (ages 5-12) will be adjudicated by BBC Bake Off 2015 finalist Ian Cumming and live music-wise, the headline folk band will be Mishra.
Learn more about the story of the Stapleford Spitfire, shot down outside the Granary 80 years ago, as this weekend also marks 80 years since F/Lt Alfred Fane Peers Agabeg’s Spitfire was shot down in the field next to Stapleford Granary, killing him instantly.
Tony Hoskins will be exhibiting the history of the incident and one of AFP Fane’s pre-war racing cars will be joining a section of a restored Spitfire together with an iconic Rolls-Royce Merlin engine.
