Step back in time as charity shop goes vintage for Platinum Jubilee celebrations
Staff and volunteers from a charity shop will be stepping back in time for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The team from the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (Each) store will be running a vintage stall when the community comes together in the leisure centre on Saturday, June 4.
Other highlights will be a children’s entertainer, a storytelling tent with a free children’s book giveaway, an arts and crafts area, crown-making workshops, a board game area, a community café, a treasure trail and a history display. Other details are still being finalised.
Shop manager Jenny Kearney said: “We’re pleased to have been invited to run a stall. It’s something we’ve become known for in the village, having previously had a very well-received vintage corner within our shop.
“We have some beautiful vintage stock to show and sell and it’s exciting to be part of what’s sure to be a very special weekend. It’ll be great to join the rest of our community and celebrate together.”
Cherry Hinton’s celebrations start the previous day with a themed afternoon of music, decorations, entertainment and homemade cake. There will be a vintage tearoom in the leisure centre from 2pm to 5pm and a ‘Cake Fit for a Queen’ competition.
Each’s shop recently celebrated its fifth birthday, having opened over Easter 2017.
“We had a sale and a little party,” said Jenny. “We dressed our window to tell everyone we were celebrating and it was lovely to hand out five-year service awards to two of our fantastic volunteers, Shirley Scott and Christine Woodhouse.”
