The Duck Truck to open at The Grafton centre in Cambridge
Food business The Duck Truck will paddle into its first shopping centre when it opens at The Grafton centre in Cambridge.
It will become the newest Food Social addition at the centre when it opens on Saturday (November 16).
It will be the first time the award-winning street food and festival staple will operate from a shopping centre.
It joins Amélie Flam-kuche, La Piazza, Chi and Bella Italia in the shopping centre’s revamped food court.
The Burger Priest and Skewer are also set to open in the coming weeks.
The Duck Truck was founded in 2012 by Ed Farrell, who is from the Eastern region, after he took inspiration from the USA street food scene and deployed the concept at home in the UK.
He took his ideas on series two of BBC2’s My Million Pound Menu in January 2019, in which he finished runner-up.
He impressed judges with his crispy duck wrap with hoisin sauce, a pulled duck brioche bun and confit duck leg on top of duck fat chips.
If you don’t like duck, it also offers chicken as well as a 100 per cent plant-based burger.
After operating from the Old Spitalfields Market in London, Ed is now extending across the UK.
In September, The Duck Truck was crowned as London’s best street food concept at Harden’s definitive 2019 London Restaurant Awards night at a ceremony in the Grand Ballroom of the Langham.
John O’Shea, centre manager, said: “Ed is someone that we know very well here at The Grafton and we couldn’t believe that he didn’t win My Million Pound Menu earlier this year.
“Ed’s offering is sublime and to have recently established his business as the best street food offering in London is a fantastic feat.
“The Duck Truck has also been a huge hit at the biggest festivals across the UK and I know that its arrival will be well received by our community.
“This has been an incredibly exciting time for us at The Grafton. Food Social continues to grow from strength-to-strength and The Duck Truck will complement the top-quality options that are currently there and that are still to open in the coming weeks.”
Ed Farrell added: “I was born and raised in Bury St Edmunds and The Grafton brings back many a good childhood memory.
“When I got the opportunity to bring The Duck Truck back to its roots I jumped at the chance.
“Food Social at The Grafton is creating such an exciting and modern way to eat, casual dining that you and your friends can all enjoy with street food quality food and a great atmosphere.
“It’s the future and we’re proud to be part of it.”
