The first ever SpeakOut Festival, a multi-venue event supporting local grass roots and activist groups from within our community. will be held over the weekend of February 11 and 12.

Dozens of musical acts, spoken word performances and other community activities are planned and will be spread out over five venues.

“It would be nice if such qualities as tolerance and compassion, fairness and justice took care of themselves,” said Izi Phoneix, one of the acts appearing at the Six Bells pub in Cambridge, explaining the thinking behind the event.

“But left unspoken they can be neglected. Here is our chance to support these qualities, as well as a reminder that public services and environmental issues are also vital, and that we support a health system that is properly managed and funded, for example.”

Phoenix concluded: “The Festival will be a jovial affair, and by turning up and supporting it you will be giving the nod to the type of voice we are trying to raise. See you there somewhere!”
