Vidya Math’s latest book, ‘The Ring’, adds up to a ‘romantasy’

Cambridge author Vidya Math, whose fourth book, The Book of Gems, was published earlier this year, is back with a new effort in the fantasy genre titled The Ring.

Published on 11 September, and described as “a spellbinding journey of love, magic, and self-discovery”, the tale is set in the enchanting land of Leylan, where Raura, a young woman marked by an unexplained, magical wedding band – one that is invisible to all but herself – seeks to break free from a fate she hasn’t chosen.

The ring masks her from eligible young men. In her quest to have the ring removed, she comes across many suitors.

As she navigates powerful wizards, mysterious beings, and hidden truths, Raura must uncover the secrets of her heart and the forces that bind her.

In a world where every decision echoes through the realms, will she reclaim her destiny or be consumed by it?

Vidya tells the Cambridge Independent that people who have read the book, or even part of it, have found it “riveting”, and have expressed that they “really want to know what happens next” after they have read the first few chapters.

She continues: “I was compelled to write the book after I was visited by the concept of it – out of the blue – in August 2023, and it took six months to write. It links to my previously published story, Dimensions of the Heart, although it is not a direct sequel…

“I'm very excited to share this story with readers, as it is my first fantasy book that can be classed under the genre ‘romantasy’.”

The Ring is available now, published by Olympia Publishers.
