Winners of fourth Cambridge Invitational Art Contest revealed
The fourth Cambridge Invitational Art Contest, supported by the Cambridge Independent, celebrated the original work and talent of 12 artists.
Organised by The Galeria Moderna art gallery in the Grand Arcade, the winners were revealed at a private view and awards evening on Sunday (December 17).
The gallery is now showcasing the award-winning artworks until this Saturday (December 23). Each of them is for sale, with 20 per cent of the proceeds going to local charity Arts and Minds, which supports positive mental health and wellbeing through creativity.
The winning artists are: Dinah Case, Elizabeth Hay Brown, Elizabeth Cooke, Emma Mayoux-Andrews, Carol Whitehouse, Theofilos Seintis, Simona Ivanova Nedeva, Egle Stabuzyte-Brazdzioniene, Sam Kelly, Susan Law, Troy Stuart and Julia Fernández Rebollo.
As well as the Cambridge Independent, support came from Scudamore’s Punting, the Gonville Hotel and Cass Art, while special guest judge, sculptor John Doubleday, was also in attendance.
Each patron selected an artist for a special award – the winner of the inaugural Cambridge Independent Award was Emma Mayoux-Andrews, for her unique artwork ‘I Feel Safe’ – a wooden ‘book of doors’ created in collaboration with homeless people in Cambridge.
The Mayor’s Choice Award was presented to local artist Sue Law. J Leone, the event organiser and an artist himself, thanked supporters and said: “It was a wonderful night to witness the joy on the artists’ faces, celebrating their success and acknowledging their hard work is a privilege and pleasure.”
