2nd Ely Scouts to hold open evening for boys and girls aged 10-14

The 2nd Ely Scout Group will hold an open evening for boys and girls aged 10 to 14 who are interested in joining a new troop.

The event will be held on Monday, 9 September from 6.30-8pm at Queen Adelaide Village Hall at 25 Ely Road (CB7 4TZ). Outdoor activities, crafts and games will be on offer.

The Scouts provide more than 250 activities for children and young people, ranging from abseiling to cooking, geocaching to mechanics and pioneering to zorbing.

Joining the Scouts also gives young people the chance to learn and develop skills for life, bolstering their independence, leadership and problem-solving abilities, self-confidence, social skills and aptitude for teamwork.

A recent survey found 90 per cent of parents thought their children would benefit from learning skills for life, while another survey found 88 per cent of Scouts said they had tried activities with the Scouts that they had never done before.

The group is also looking for additional volunteers. This could include working directly with the children and young people, or as a trustee, or doing some work in the background, such as IT, administration or fundraising.

Volunteer Nina said: “Bring your child along, find out more about what they can do in Scouts and see how you can support the group. This is a great opportunity for children to join and for adults to share their knowledge, hobbies and skills.”

To register for the event, fill in this form.
