Amba the tiger, who celebrated her 18th birthday just last month, was looking unwell, causing concern for Shepreth staff.

The tiger had to be sedated for a closer examination, and a vet examined the big cat finding a nasty abscess under her tail.

Shepreth Wildlife Park director Rebecca Willers said the abscess was caused by a puncture wound, most likely caused by Amba’s male tiger partner, Rana.

The vet finished with Amba at 2am, and she is now making a fine recovery.

Amba is proving to be a fighter, having recovered from a tumor six years ago.
